Testimonials
Four years ago I moved all the way from Australia to the United States to learn how to train police dogs. I had the pleasure of completing my first 12 months of training under Janet Dooley, now of Stateline Canine Inc. I found her to be not only an outstanding dog trainer and handler, but also an impressive teacher. She has an amazing ability to handle "problem" dogs without there ever being a problem, (a talent that I will forever try and emulate) and to adapt her training style to suit individual canine temperaments. She also possesses an amazing amount of patience. As a trainer and handler, I am yet to come across someone more suited, regardless of the discipline. As a teacher that level of patience, combined with her knowledge of so many facets of dog training, is priceless. I asked millions of probably pointless questions and clarrified endlessly, and Janet always discussed my issues fully and never made me feel like a burden. I can not thank her enough for the start she gave me and for her continual assistance and guidance to this day.

In the past few years, I have had the opportunity to work with various different dog trainers, explore a number of training techniques, and work with both pet dogs and police K9s. Throughout this time, Janet Dooley has always shone through as the most effective, positive, and talented trainer I have encountered. Not only did she teach me a large part of what I know in regards to working through a dogs' behavioral issues, and utilizing their motivations to create a positive basis for training- she actually helped me train my own dog, Nero. I was new to the field when I purchased Nero, and within a few weeks he started displaying random fearful behavior (such as being afraid of his food bowl and leaves!) , wouldn't learn a "down", and lacked any sort of motivation for food. Janet patiently evaluated Nero and helped us solve these issues, motivated him to learn obedience, helped him completely overcome his fears- to the point where Nero now scarfs down every meal, and joins me on my morning run each day. What sets Janet apart from most trainers is the fact that she does not adhere to a certain school of thought or training style- she molds her methods to each individual dogs' needs. Nero and I don't know where we'd be without her!

I met Janet Dooley in February of 2010 when I was a student at Tarheel Canine Training. I was there to receive and train a dual purpose patrol dog. I had trained, certified, and handled three Human Remains Detection Dogs prior to working as a patrol dog handler for the City of Madison Police Department in Wisconsin. Janet was confident and clear with both the dogs in training and also the officers in training. The reward based training instilled at Tarheel was a natural fit for Janet’s style of dog handling. Dog handling is simply hard work both physically and mentally. Janet made it fun and even rewarding for the handlers. Janet and I spent several weekends training HRD dogs and talking shop- during my month at patrol dog school. Janet blew me away with her skill in handling her HRD dog and ability to translate where scent manifested for a dog. I recommend anyone to train with Janet in any area of dog work. You will learn and your dog will want to perform for you.
